Boa Viagem - The Reefs All Boa Viagem beach, that stretches for 07km approximately, is protected by a barrier of natural reefs, which gave name to the city. At low tide, natural swimming pools are formed all along the beach; also during low tide, it is possible to walk on the reefs, which are relatively plain and wide.
The beautiful calm sea, elegant buildings and a perfect promenade for walking, with leisure infrastructure and the busy kiosks of green coconut, bring together people of all appearances and ages, people that greet the tourists and leave the tourist with a desire to return to Recife. Calhetas: Calhetas in tupi means Small Cove, a name that already says everything. The legend says that the first to arrive in the area had been Vicente Yanez Pinzón and his band of Spaniards around the 26 of January, 1500. It is located - more or less 40KM to the south of Recife. It is in the Municipality of Cape Saint Augustin and access is via the BR101 and later by the PE60. There are traffic sign and although some entrances are dirt roads the access is simple and easy.
Gaibu: From the Tupi, meaning Valley of the Eye Of The Eagle, it is one of the most talked about places on the Pernambucan coast. There you will find an infrastructure of inns, hotels and restaurants, the sea has crystalline water and invites you to go diving and surfing. One of the main attractions of Gaibu is climbing the rocky hill to appreciate a beautiful seascape and to see a privileged scene: the beach of Calhetas.
Itamaracá: Itamaracá is a word of aboriginal origin that means " rock that sings" or " resonant rock ". According to historians, the founding of the settlement dates back to 1508, being elevated to the category of village in 1540. The Municipal buildings are in the Pillar, which became village in 1831. It is famous for its title of " Capital of Ciranda" , the Island of Itamaracá keeps alive Pernambucan popular culture and moreover possesss one of the most popular estuaries in the State. Pillar, the Orange Fort, the “Coroa de Aveão” and the famous Old Village are some of the beaches that attract tourist many places in the country and economically sustain the local sector. The “Coroa de Aveão” is an extensive sand bank located between the Island of Itamaracá and the Santa Cruz Channel; it serves as a base for research into migratory birds;
Carneiros You have to enjoy the wild landscape of the beach of Carneiros located 5km from the city. Carneiros is a beach of dreams. There are 5km of coconut palms that border all its length, the water is limpid and warm and its landscape is moulded by the estuary of the Formoso River and by a thick wall of reefs 1Km long. The natural swimming pools and the sand banks offer an unequal spectacle of colours. The waves bathe “the little church of " , be Carneiros which is still used today on isolated occasions. The beach is a paradise that deserves to be visited, as the landscape is still almost the same one as at the beginning of the century. It has a natural anchorage at low tide for small boats and average-size boats at high tide.
